Rip Steve Jobs
Oct. 6th, 2011 08:57 amToday I read about the death of Steve Jobs on my iPhone, the most useful little machine invented since the microwave oven. Rest in peace, Steve, knowing you lived an amazing and impactful life.

I'm gonna eat you little fishie!
Aug. 29th, 2011 01:36 pmSurprise 12-hr shift at Pub was surprising! Because I was only scheduled for a 9-hr. Still. It wasn't so bad. I went a bit cucoo at the end.
Most annoying part of the day was having to negotiate with my manager for full pay. He wanted to pay me for 11.5 hours. I pointed out that a 12-1230 shift was 12 hrs and 10 mins worth of pay (20 min unpaid break deducted).
Have texted head manager to double check figures because dammit I will be paid the full amount or else!
But though I'm exhausted, and it is Hell week, and I am still stuck in the UK, I just had a pint of Ben & Jerry's Phish Food so all is well and nothing can be ill.
Whee R+J quote ftw! I've gone the full gamut of British culture - Red Dwarf to Shakespeare.
PS. I downloaded the Mad Max trilogy. Jensen Ackles is the spit of Mel Gibson circa 1980.

Religiosity, when it benefits me
Jul. 24th, 2011 07:44 pmToday's achievements:
A. Sleep for 9 hours.
B. Eat breakfast and lunch.
C. Order obscene amounts of pizza for tea.
D. Laundry.
E. Veg stew for tomorrow/Tuesday.
F. Begin writing my aforementioned utterly indulgent, utterly shameful self-insert fic. I can't stop blushing, but I'm having a great time!

An open letter
Jul. 20th, 2011 06:35 pmDear NE England,
You may or may not have noticed the date. Let me remind you: July 20th. We are well and truly into summer.
Let me ask you this? How am I meant to conduct some kind of summer fling/whatever without the appropriate weather? I'm supposed to be on a beach date tonight. Looming clouds and a wind chill factor do not a romance make.
Please to be sending some sun.
No love (as my heart is frozen, and only you can thaw it),
Me

Amusement of the day
Jul. 11th, 2011 09:09 amToday I was told I looked like a 'butter-wouldn't-melt' kind of girl.
I could take over the world with a ruse like that. XD

Brought to you by sleep deprivation
Jun. 14th, 2011 03:30 pmI. I slept 4 hours last night. I don't do well on no sleep, especially on a (literal) school night. Have been drinking mochaccinos today, and I don't even like coffee. Blah.
II. Things what need doing: fold laundry, put away dishes, vacuum, finish the goddamn K/S fic, go jogging, buy groceries, tutor. Not in that order.
III. Slow day at school gave me ample time to ponder the future. I has a travel bug that is well documented, but I also has an academic bug. I've been looking at PhD options. Berkeley and KCL are still waaaay up there. What other schools might I go for in the USA?
IV. But of course, I do want to travel first. I think Australia will be my first port of call when I've done my NQT year. Then New Zealand. Then the Far East. My plan, it is complex.
V. I have purple toenails.

Tutoring again
Jun. 11th, 2011 12:12 pm12 mins to the end of Boy's mock English exam. A random post of randomisity:
A. I am self-sabotaging. Been staying up hella late this week reading badfic instead of writing my own fills or, y'know, sleeping. Brain, you are not so subtle.
B. eHarmony. Got a few convos going with some matches. I suppose the next part is to arrange coffee dates? IDEK. I've never dated before. I've never had a boyfriend before. How does this adult thing go?
C. I fail at writing fic. I'm more disciplined about running than about writing. Blaegh.
D. If the summer would just hurry up and load instead of timing out then the world would be a lot better.

Killing time
Jun. 8th, 2011 07:27 pmAm currently tutoring. Boy is doing a mock exam question for another 40+ mins. Not a bad way to earn £30.
Today was my weekend and it was really good. Slept in, made lots of food for the coming week, read a load of fic at buckleup_meme, and went clothes shopping. Spent a small fortune on tops but only got one pair of jeans. Ah well. I did need the tops.
The goal tonight is to finish the K/S fic I promised rhaegal for kscon. Then I can crack on with all the other fics waiting. People are already posting about their progress for
startrekbigbang! Waah!

A post in three parts
May. 30th, 2011 11:42 pm![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Part the Second: Does it still count as 'Irish Tea' if it's got Scotch Whisky in it?
Part the Third: I have [what I egotistically presume is] a fantastic idea for
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
Am I bowing to societal conventions?
May. 25th, 2011 10:13 pm...
I can think of 101 reasons why it was a silly/bad/immature/desperate mistake, but I figured: "Meh, what have I got to lose [besides a one-month subscription fee of £34.95?]?" So I did it. I signed up, answered the tedious questionnaire, wrote my profile and posted some pictures. Got a few matches that sparked my interest. We'll see how it goes.
Sometimes I just get a bit tired of house - pub - house. Figured maybe house - pub - roundtrip to Rochdale or Berwick - house might ease the boredom.
And also I'm lonely. I can admit that, I think. (Not that the housemate isn't wonderful, for she is and I love her to itty-bitty-sneezy pieces! We are an old married couple in practically every way possible!)
I'll shut up now.
A post about life
May. 23rd, 2011 09:48 am- I have officially lost 2 stone since January! Woo!
- today I signed up for startrekbigbang! Must brainstorm.
- I am still plugging away at Absence Makes. It will not be abandoned!
- no one wrote me fic for the five acts kink meme. *sadface* Oh well. I'm having quite a lot of fun filling other prompts myself.
- might have to write a 5 ways gaila and jim meet.
- do you think Winona is still alive in the movieverse?

Three things (of varying triviality)
Apr. 5th, 2011 12:08 amThing the Second: I am still awake, when I should be sleeping, because I have to get up early to tidy the house and pack my bag before going to school (via Tesco for foodstuffs) and then I'm HOME for a few days, and then CORNWALL for a few more, then HOME again.
Thing the Third: Chapter Two of Absence Makes will henceforth be known as THE CHAPTER THAT NEVER ENDS. I keep trying to get the boys onto a boat, and they keep stopping to have arguments and blowjobs and things. Most irritating.
Results of a fever
Mar. 4th, 2011 11:26 amHave spent most of the morning looking up the visa requirements for Australia and New Zealand. Contrary to what I thought, the Kiwi visa is up to age 30. That sucks ... a lot.
It has also come to my attention that I have a regret. University. I went because the government was threatening to withdraw funding. I knew I wanted to get a degree, but I didn't know what in. So I picked the most broad subject (American Studies and English) and went off to study. And, okay, it was fun, and I don't regret Canada or meeting
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Okay, clarification of thought: I regret being mid-20s and in debt and stuck in frigid England when I could have been globetrotting for the past 6 years.
Benefits of hindsight I guess.
Ah well! I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. Mostly I'm just annoyed that I'm cutting it very fine with the Australasia working holiday visa stuff (age-wise, that is).
Things, and also stuff
Mar. 2nd, 2011 10:08 am- I made banana bread yesterday. It smells so good. Can't wait to have a slice tonight!
- The house wireless network is sometimes made of fail. I can't currently access Kock (Popcorn Hour device) to edit some files. FAAAIL.
- My problems are so First World.
- I just watched Tangled again, and now I have ( thoughts. )
State of the Nation
Jan. 19th, 2011 10:14 pmAm on third day of new diet/healthy eating malarkey. Going well thus far! So much food to eat, OMG. Speaking of, need to eat dinner soon.
Also, this morning was Week 1: Day 2 of the Couch to 5k program. That's right! I'm running! It's awesome.
I will definitely miss having mornings off to do things (like shop, run, eat a proper breakfast), though it sounds like the Council might try to keep me on past my contract. Yay!
LJ-related: uploaded new icons. I am decidedly not in fandom at all anymore, so most fandom-related icons have gone. I'm really not that sad about it. Very strange.
