Met up with [livejournal.com profile] neutrallized yesterday, as she is studying in the UK. Woo! It was fun. There was consumption of non-chickeny Nandos, and spiced apple and almond pie from Ely (and also a quick stop at Ely cathedral, which is tres awesome but charges entry wtf.

Quote of the day (from [livejournal.com profile] neutrallized): You should have a baby!

I am watching Mad Max whilst waiting for oatmeal/raisin cookies to finish baking so I can have some with a cup of tea whilst I watch my movie and read Kurt/Blaine fic on AO3.

I don't even care I have work at 7pm, because my life is awesome.

Surprise 12-hr shift at Pub was surprising! Because I was only scheduled for a 9-hr. Still. It wasn't so bad. I went a bit cucoo at the end.

Most annoying part of the day was having to negotiate with my manager for full pay. He wanted to pay me for 11.5 hours. I pointed out that a 12-1230 shift was 12 hrs and 10 mins worth of pay (20 min unpaid break deducted).

Have texted head manager to double check figures because dammit I will be paid the full amount or else!

But though I'm exhausted, and it is Hell week, and I am still stuck in the UK, I just had a pint of Ben & Jerry's Phish Food so all is well and nothing can be ill.

Whee R+J quote ftw! I've gone the full gamut of British culture - Red Dwarf to Shakespeare.

PS. I downloaded the Mad Max trilogy. Jensen Ackles is the spit of Mel Gibson circa 1980.

  • I made banana bread yesterday. It smells so good. Can't wait to have a slice tonight!

  • The house wireless network is sometimes made of fail. I can't currently access Kock (Popcorn Hour device) to edit some files. FAAAIL.

  • My problems are so First World.

  • I just watched Tangled again, and now I have thoughts. )

I made Moroccan Lentil Tagine (well, a rough estimation of it anyway) and it was YUMMEH. Which is great because we made enough for 3 more meals in this batch, with ingredients chopped up for another 4 or so ready to boil. Yay foodstuffs!

That is all.

Today's dinner was delicious! And all my own invention!

Ingredients:

2 wholemeal pitta
1 large tin of chopped tomatoes
1 small tin of tuna in brine, drained
30g of sweetcorn
60g cheddar cheese
2 pinch basil
2 pinch oregano
2 pinch black pepper
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 pinch sugar

Recipe:

1. Preheat oven to 180C.
2. Slice the pittas in half sideways. Place in oven to harden.
3. Heat chopped tomatoes in saucepan; the aim is to reduce the liquid.
4. When tomatoes are quite reduced (think thick soup consistency) add sugar, tuna, balsamic vinegar, oregano, basil, and pepper. Stir thoroughly for 5 minutes.
5. Remove pittas from oven.
6. Spoon sauce onto pitta bases until all sauce is used up.
7. Grate cheese and sprinkle onto sauce.
8. Stick in oven for 15-20 mins, or until cheese is gooey.
9. Serve with salad.

Today has been an awesome day. I'm back in California at summer camp, looking after ponies and a petting zoo again. It's July 4th weekend. What did I do today? Well, I woke at 6.30 to feed the ponies and clear up all their poop. This pleased me greatly as Silver the pony had a touch of water colic yesterday that had me worried, but today he was right as rain.

I had avocados on toast for breakfast, then started to clear out the animals as they have a serious fly infestation that I'm fighting. Then I got invited to IHOP for second breakfast and had the most epic cream cheese stuffed French toast with strawberries and two large cups of lemon iced tea. I have been craving same for the last 3 years.

And then I bought a party size bag of peanut butter MnMs and am now the happiest person on earth.

It's kind of amazing how a little bit of hard work, some good food, and heaps of sunshine can just turn your life around.

Tomorrow we get to ride in a fire truck in some small town parade followed by a BBQ and swimming and fireworks at Roo's house. Awesome.
