New Year Sheep *baaaah*
Dec. 31st, 2008 07:35 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Graduated. Got my driving license. Lived in Luxembourg. Lived in Switzerland. Visited Milan. All of those things, apart from driving, happened in the second half of the year.
Did you keep your new years' resolutions?
These were my 2008 resolutions. I failed at running, and volunteering, but I think I did okay on the bitchy comments thing. Mostly because I spent 2/3rds of the year working with small children.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes. My boss. And possibly my cousin, I'm not sure.
Did anyone close to you die?
We've got a case of Alzheimer's and a terminal brain tumour (two separate relatives), but no one dead. Yet.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Au pairing. I did it, for 9 months, in two separate countries, and it was an experience I'll never forget.
Also, I learnt to drive.
What was your biggest failure?
Learning that I can be a disgustingly sly, self-serving and devious person when faced with a situation I don't like.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had a case of summer flu, and then a really awful dose of flu when I came back to the UK. Hit a fever of 103 or more.
What was the best thing you bought?
New DVD player for mum's birthday.
What countries did you visit?
Luxembourg, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy. XD
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A purpose. I'm working on that.
Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I have racked my brains and can't really come up with anyone who has behaved in an extraordinarily special way. So I will say ... Hugh Edwards, because it can't be easy presenting the news when the content writers clearly don't have a decent editor amongst them.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, I hate no one.
Where did most of your money go?
Oh God, I don't even know. Driving lessons, food, accomodation, travel, clothing. It just disappears!
Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
More mellow. Life isn't as free and easy, but I'm never 'sad' sad.
ii. richer or poorer?
Much poorer if only because I don't have any government loans to rely on.
iii. fatter or thinner?
About the same, I think.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercising.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time.
Howwill you be did you spending Christmas?
Christmas Eve was a few hours at my dad's house with his wife, his son, and his step-kids. Christmas Day was with mother and sister and dogs, opening presents and having a laugh. I think we played Charades.
Did you fall in love in 2008?
Nope. I hope one day it happens. Of course, I might need to go and, like, talk to people. Heh.
How many one-night stands?
I suppose 1, but it was more like a one-afternoon stand. And ill-advised.
What was your favourite TV program?
MERLIN!
What was the best book you read?
East of Eden by Steinbeck.
What was your favourite film of this year?
In Bruges. Subtitled in French and Dutch for Luxembourgish release. As you do.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 22. I worked 12 hours with the Swiss girls, but got some very nice and tasty presents.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
As much as I love the Boy I looked after, I regret going to Luxembourg. It was a pretty black spot on my year.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Cheap and child-damaged.
What kept you sane?
The Internet and all the people on it.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jensen Ackles, forever and always, amen.
What political issue stirred you the most?
SOUTH KOREA CHANGING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE E2 VISA. SDFGJLDFSGFSG!!£$%^"$
Whom did you miss?
My mother, sister, dogs, friends - Luxembourg was a very isolating experience.
Who was the best new person you met?
belenustenebrae and
moeshas and
yoongz and
jackks and anyone else I missed out.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008
This was totally the theme we chose for NaNoSwitzerland! LOL. Hmm. A life lesson I learned: always look out for #1, but do it honourably and honestly or karma will bite you in the ass.
Change of plans: Not moving to York. Moving to Durham. Going to go to York when I take an MA in English (the 'frivolous' MA). Durham's MA TESOL is more appealing. Will, of course, apply to both just to be safe.

*shudders*
Not saying everyone up there is a snob. they're not. But it certainly has transformed several of my friends who went there.

Date: 2009-01-01 12:35 am (UTC)...yeah, I'm not doing that meme. If only because the answer to the birthday question is pathetically depressing. Even for me.
