fadagaski: (take it easy turtle)

Today I realised, possibly for the first time in my life, that in order to get down to a healthy weight for my height and build, I am going to have to do this restricted calorie diet thing for a year or more.

12 months.

52 weeks.

Eating 1700 calories a day or less (though, of course, never under-eating in terms of volume). Running 3 times a week. Swimming and biking when I can. Thinking always about the food in my fridge, on my plate, in my hand. Weighing myself every week to make sure that I haven't slipped up somewhere, and to correct any little errors that find their way to the hips.

My reasons for wanting to lose weight haven't changed:

  • health (already my knee has stopped twinging).
  • more health (it's very likely I have PCOS, which can sometimes be managed with a low Gi diet).
  • family health history (there's a history of diabetes and high blood pressure on the maternal line, and I'm sure it's closely related to weight).
  • vanity (because I am a woman, in the Western hemisphere, in the C21st; of course I worry about how I look).
  • teaching (I start training in September; in my secondary school, it was noticeable that slimmer female teachers had more control over their classes than their plumper counterparts).
  • romance (it's not that I think men wouldn't like me at my current size, just that my self-confidence would prevent me from meeting those men; I am a bubbly, loud person through and through, and yet I don't believe a person of the opposite sex has ever thought of me romantically ... ever).

The conclusion to this ramble? Having taken a couple photos of myself in a new swimming costume (for frank appraisal and future comparisons), I'm determined now. When I started this TescoDiet and the C25K program two weeks ago I weighed 13st 6.5lbs. Today I weigh 12st 11lbs.

It's all down from here.
