  • Sister's dog is okay. Remarkably okay, actually. Cuts and bruises, and a big dent in her confidence, but otherwise fine. Aside from the being hit by a car, she's a lucky girl.
  • First day at work! It went well, I think. Coworkers all seem friendly, and I was kept busy all day without being overwhelmed. I'm sure the actual technicalities of my job will get easier with a bit of time/patience/practice.
  • Boy I was meant to meet for drinks today canceled at last minute. Am not best pleased, obviously, but he seems repentant so I'm willing to give him one more shot.
  • Going for dinner with a surgeon tomorrow, which is exciting and intimidating in equal measures.
  • Got invited out for a drink with Cockney from work on Friday after I drove him home.
  • Good day.
fadagaski: (merlin morgana *dramatic*)
  • I have tea.
  • It started snowing earlier, which is nice and pretty, but awful to drive in, and yet no one died ... at my hand, at least.
  • I just ordered the second Merlin boxset because I will soon be able to afford it.
  • How?
  • Because I have a JOB starting on MONDAY working in ADMIN, so I am pretty much squeeing [internally] all the time now.
  • Also, I signed up for an online dating site and had two guys message me (and a 66y/o wink at me, but we can't have everything).
  • I have tea (bears repeating).

Haha, remember my last post where I was all like, "Yeah, with a positive attitude I can totally be a saleswoman"?

Am quitting.

For a variety of reasons. None of which I will go into here.

...

At least I'll have time to write HP/Merlin x-over fic! XD

Yesterday, instead of going into the field with everyone, I was invited to the 'preman' meeting, where Bossman explained to us entry-level grunts how the company works and what it is possible to achieve with a little bit of hard graft. I have come to several conclusion.

1) This is just a job. It's awkward to go door-to-door, but people only have to say 'no'. That's the worst that can happen.

2) I'm not interested in climbing the ladder and owning my own company, which is the goal of most of the people there I think.

3) I need the money in the short term, so I'll keep looking for a job that has a guarantee on wage.

4) But I think with an attitude adjustment, a bit of practice, and some luck, I might be able to make it work for me.

Last night, the girls and I went into Durham for a boogie and had a brilliant time. We came home far too early IMO - I could've danced for at least another couple hours - but it was nice to go for a drink, have a dance, and not work or sit on my ass. ^_^

OMFG I am so exhausted. Housemate (haven't seen her in 2 days, due to job) left a note saying there were fajitas in the fridge. I came in, but was so tired I couldn't actually figure out what item in the fridge could be deemed fajita-like. So I had yoghurts instead.

Early morning tomorrow. I wonder if I can convince Bossman to hire me for Human Resources?
fadagaski: (ffx crying tidus)
That I Liked:

- meeting new people who just wanted to have a chat
- getting off my ass

Things I Did Not Appreciate:

- being unexpectedly used as a taxi service
- having my driving criticised whilst being a taxi service
- being told that we work 6 days a week, which was not brought up in interview
- becoming self-employed, also something I wasn't informed about

Things I Hated (With A Passion):

- the invasive and inconsiderate nature of the business
- how very phoney being a chugger is, pretending excitement about the cause when it's actually about the money

Don't suppose anyone wants to employ a housecleaner?

YOU CAN HAS JOB!

Today I went for a second interview-cum-taster session, apparently did quite well, and got the job! So as of tomorrow, I am a door-to-door charity fundraiser working for commission, which is ... not exactly ideal, but wtfever it's money. I get paid weekly! MONEY! WEEKLY!

Shit To Do List: still a thousand miles long. >.
fadagaski: (ff7 cloud afro)
I do, now. *is ded*

I'm much more confident at driving, but oh my god I am so tired. And skint. Let's not forget that.

Today I received a free tank of diesel, a table-top fridge, and a phone call for interview. Downside to that last is they didn't tell me where to go. Um. Oops.

Tomorrow I am going to ring up every pub within 20 miles and ask if they have any vacancies.

On Monday I have an 'observation day' for the position as 'sales manager' (door-to-door sales), which I'm not exactly thrilled about but a job's a job, and at this point I'm getting slightly desperate. I also have a telephone interview with the AA in the morning.

On Tuesday is the above interview, somewhere in the middle of Newcastle. I hope it's for something halfway decent like receptionist or administrator. *crosses fingers*

In the interim, I need to:

  • go grocery shopping
  • inform SLC of my current ability to pay off student debt (read: nil)
  • register at a local doctor
  • declare my passport missing and order a new one (£72 down the drain)
  • get a new car insurance quote
  • tell bank of new address
  • sleep
At least my mum found my transcripts/degree from Keele, so I was able to finish applying to Durham University. Now I just have to wait 3+ weeks for a response, and if it's in the negative then I'm not quite sure what I'll do. *bites lip*
fadagaski: (frog pile)
So! Today's the day! I need to get dressed, pack up my car with my mountains of stuff (how can one person own so much?!), secure said car so that the boot doesn't fly open (busted lock), then make the long yet more-or-less straight trip up to Durham to my new humble abode. *crosses fingers* I hope nothing falls off my car again (was the water reservoir that nearly killed my car last time, not a black plastic bag as previously thought).

Also received interesting advice from a recruitment consultant today. Enter into an interview with purpose. I need to want the career with the jobs I'm applying for, which is a bit awkward seeing as I've applied for everything from IT to hospitality. He saw through my charade when he asked me why I wanted a job in finance. Heh. Oh dear. I just want a long-term temp office job!! Is that too much to ask?

Anywho, internet will be sparse for the time being, so my sporadic posts will likely become even more sporadic. Catch y'all whenever.

Note for [livejournal.com profile] shei: keep up with the fic!

I's gotsta interview with a MARKETING AGENCY for a position as a SALES MANAGER.

Allow me a moment to wallow in the fluffy warmth of hope before doubt and paranoia set in.
fadagaski: (bunny on the line)
To all America: Congrats!

To the rest of the world: Congrats by proxy!

This day is so symbolic, and memorable, etc etc. It'll be interesting to see what people make of Bush's presidency in 50 years ... and what Obama's presidency will look like from the other side in comparison. I hope he doesn't fuck up too much.

I have fic (two, actually), but as I'm sort of selfish I don't want to post them until the flood of inaugaration posts dies down. Yes, I am just that shallow.

This past weekend I was in Cardiff, which was wet and windy and cold but also nice to see the grandparents again. Despite their differences, and the awkwardness, and all that jazz, they really do love each other. Made me feel all soft and squishy inside. On the way home we were nearly made soft and squishy on the motorway when my car made bizarre noises (due to a bag stuck in the front-right wheel), we almost careened into a Spanish HGV, and then had to emergency break on the last 100 yards of hard shoulder. Fun times. But the car is fine, and nobody died, so it's okay.

One week until I move to Durham, and I have an interview scheduled for the 28th for a position in telesales. I hate the idea of coldcalling, but I'll do just about anything for money. Also have telephone interview with the AA scheduled for Feb 2nd, and there's still ad hoc warehouse work in Sunderland, so I'm hopeful. *FINGERS AND TOES CROSSED LIKE MAD*
fadagaski: (trigun vash thumbs-up)
I am innocent in all of this. Innocent!

See, I'm job-hunting, naturally. And, naturally, it's slim pickings here in the UK. But the websites I'm using to look also have international job listings. And I've been here in England for 2 weeks tomorrow, which is about my standard time frame before I'm jetting off somewhere new and exciting. So, naturally, I have been looking at international job opportunities including, but not limited to, being a Content Writer for CNN International in the UAE and a Trainee Technical Author for Reuters in France. Chances of making it past first stage to either are 694248 to 1 against, but there you go. And then, naturally, I re-stumbled upon the Working Holiday Visa to Australia and New Zealand, and yes, I am VERY VERY VERY tempted. So tempted that if nothing of interest happens by May, then I know where I'll be heading.

But it's not my fault! I blame my mother.
fadagaski: (merlin morgana *dramatic*)
I was in Milan! ( And this is what I did, as narrated by someone else )

This flat seems to get smaller every time I come home. So today, for purposes of finding employ in order to have own room/bed again (having been spoilt by en suite in Switzerland), I get to sign up with 70 bakillion temp agencies up the city. W00t. And also buy Xmas presents. And also deposit monies. FTW.

I am feeling very selfish, this season, fyi. Normally I'm all about the listening to other people's problems, the offering of hugs/tea/advice, the glowing with optimism and enthusiasm. Not right now. Now, I'm all about the fact that I have one pair of trousers, three t-shirts, and no bed of my own. Lemme wallow for a while in unemployed, Merlin-less, not-exactly-miserable-but-still-feeling-petty selfishness.
fadagaski: (tree LOVE)
I'm moving back to the UK this December in the hopes of being able to pick up a job or three and put aside some cash. Despite the financial crunch - and the fact that nearly 2 million Brits are out of work - I'm fairly hopeful that I can find some kind of office temp work or picking&packing, or something. If not?

Well, this is just a heads up to those who need to know - I'll be moving to South Korea.

(NaNo is going so not-well. Haven't written anything today. Hahaha, I need to get utterly slaughtered this weekend and write through the night.)
fadagaski: (sa distance)
Well, it's the end of my spectacular little holiday in England. Two weeks of lounging around the house, visiting family and friends, eating way too much junk food and loving every minute of it. I've managed to acquire a NaNoWriMo travel mug and ML stickers, 4 postgraduate prospectuses (from Cardiff, Durham, UCL, and York - and would that be prospecti?), and a new suitcase. I came here with 24kg of check-in luggage and I'm leaving with 9.6kg. My hand luggage weighs more.

It's also been decided that [livejournal.com profile] bustahead and I won't be going to Japan in August. This is for a number of reasons, but mostly money. The JET scheme don't pay the upfront fees on housing any more, which is a huge blow for anyone moving to Japan because it's so extortionate. Plus I am really really overdrawn on all my accounts. So I need a settled, full time job or two to get things together. It'll work out in the end. I mean, we all know I can't sit still for five minutes when there are cheap flights leaving daily to all over the world.

And finally, the end date for this job is December 12th. I will be back in the UK some time after that, depending on when the cheapest flight goes. Between then and now I am going to: Geneva, Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lucerne, and MILAN(!), so I won't be bored! Or rich. LOL.

Adios amigos. Catch ya on the flipside ...

ETA: Landed safe and sound. It's absolutely miserable here, though. Fog and cloud like pea soup as we touched down in Basel, and the trip from the French coast onwards was bumpy and uncomfortable. Blaaarrrgh.

BUT I have internet here at the airport. God bless the French and their airport wifi!
